December 2023 Engagements

1st December 2023

Sunday 3rd December Masonic Christmas Charity Concert, St Michael’s Church 6.30pm This concert will be a great start to the Festive season.

Tuesday 5th December Carols outside the Farmer’s Arms for the St Columb Minor Christmas event 6.30pm

Friday 8th December Fore Street Cafe carols at 6.30pm.

Sunday 10th December Salvation Army Carol Service at 10.30am

Each Saturday in December 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd members of the Band will be playing at different spots in town between 12 and 2pm. This is part of Newquay BID’s Christmas events in the town through December.

Friday 15th December Christmas Musical Extravaganza at St Michael’s Church at 7.00pm. This is our annual joint concert with Mount Charles Band and a guest appearance from our beginner's band 'Brass For All'.

This is always a wonderful evening, with guaranteed snow! Why not come along? You won’t be disappointed.

On Sunday 17th December Town Carol Service St Michael’s Church at 6.00pm. This is a lovely traditional service for the community with readings, carols and musical items from the different choirs as well as the Band.

Brass For All

22nd May 2023

Very soon, we will be launching our new training band ~ Newquay Brass For All

We are looking forward to welcoming anyone who would like to learn a brass instrument.

It will be a great opportunity for children and adults to learn together.

RNLI Naming Ceremony

21st May 2023

Today, the band had the honour of playing for the RNLI at the Harbour.

This was for the naming ceremony for their new B-Class lifeboat "Uncle Johnny"

End of The Summer

Newquay Band is almost at the end of the summer engagements list. There is just one more outdoor event to go! The Band will be playing at Newquay Beer Festival at 1.45pm on Sunday 23rd September. This event is organised by the Lions and is always very popular, with live music as well as beer tasting! Newquay Band has played at this festival for a few years now.

Early September has been busy for the Band with engagements on both weekends.

On Saturday 1st September the band led the morning Civic Procession through the town centre from Gover Lane to the Killacourt as part of the Annual Gorsedh Kernow Esedhvos Festival of Cornish Culture which took place in Newquay this year. During the Bardic ceremony on the Barrowfields that same afternoon two Newquay Band cornet players, Ben and Richard, had the honour of sounding the fanfare as the Grand Bard entered the circle. Finally in the evening Newquay Band took part in the annual Gorsedh Kernow Concert, held this year at the Hotel Bristol. MD Steve Fryett chose a good selection of Cornish tunes which the large appreciative audience thoroughly enjoyed. It was a great honour for the band to be involved in this prestigious event - the first time it had been held in Newquay since 1962!

Sunday 9th September saw the band down at the harbour for the annual Fish Festival. This is another tradition for the band, who have played at the festival every year except 2017. This year they played on the quay in the morning in glorious sunshine. Several Newquay Band players also played with Mount Charles Band on the Friday evening for the annual Last Night of the Proms, always a popular event at the Fish Festival.

We are recruiting new players at the moment, so if you have ever played a brass instrument or would like to learn, please get in touch. We are a friendly band of players who enjoy making music together, as well as meeting socially at events! Lessons are available free of charge on Mondays from 6.15pm. The training band meets on Wednesdays from 5pm. Senior band rehearsals are held on Mondays from 7.30. All of the above are held at the band room, Clevedon Road.
